Explanations From Exile, LLC (EFE) is an arts justice initiative that fuses art, research, and activism to address systemic inequities disproportionately affecting communities of color. Founded in 2016 by artist and social justice advocate Sean “2ruTh7” Evelyn, EFE started at Norfolk Prison in Massachusetts as a storytelling initiative grounded in restorative practices. By 2020, it evolved into a research-driven subcommittee under the African-American Coalition Committee (AACC), studying the connection between youthful exposure to violence and the pre carceral commission of violent acts among incarcerated men– emphasizing the critical importance of pretrial mental health assessments and the development of tailored Restorative Justice. programs.
In 2023, Evelyn launched EFE as a multimedia arts justice company. Each project by EFE operates at the intersection of personal and collective narrative, blending evocative visuals and compelling storytelling to confront harsh societal truths. Guided by its ethos—Create, Inspire, Liberate—EFE seeks to inspire transformative dialogue and reimagine. the possibilities of justice, healing, and accountability.
